Passover in Stamford Hill, London - Searching for Chametz { 14 images } Created 14 Apr 2014
Families of the Jewish Community of Stamford Hill searched for chametz (leavened bread products) in their houses on the night before the annual Passover.
According to the Torah (Exod. 12:15) no chametz (leavened bread products of any kind) may be eaten during Passover. On the night before Passover, a final "ceremonial search" for chametz is performed by candlelight by the entire family. The search is traditionally conducted with a beeswax candle, a feather, a wooden spoon and a bag for collecting any chametz found. These chametz will be joined with all the remaining leavened products in the house and burned the next morning.
